Blogosphere

These days, “blog” is no longer a foreign term. A blog is a personal website moderated by an individual. It is very much a place for an individual to express their thoughts. It serves as a personal journal that is updated on a regular basis. The term “Blogosphere” refers to the community of bloggers on the Internet.

According to Winn, Technorati (2008), blogs are here to stay as an most blogs are maintained in an average of three years; and it is a true global phenomenon as 81 languages have been tracked by Technorati in June 2008.

Blogging in Europe, is less popular compared to Asia. According to Brook(2006), Europeans have a have a low level of trust in blogs. News on national TV and search engines are said to be more credible. The trend and prevalent blogs in Europe includes politics, technology and business.

The blogging phenomenon in Asia and Malaysia are increasingly popular. With political blogs dominating the blogosphere, Malaysians are aware of what is really going in our politics as we are no longer only exposed to stories from the government.

Blogs are tools to gain more information. The other advantages include freedom of speech and keeping in touch with friends and family.
