How do we classify Blogs?

We often read blogs or search for blogs based on our own field of interest. For instance: travel, fashion, politics and food blogs. There are a few types of classification system that Wikipedia(2009) came up with, such as a Moblog (device)- A combination of mobile and blog. According to Christensen, in order to blog in instant, we need access to a handheld device and a way (e.g. WiFi) in order for us to blog on the go. The popular moblog today is Twitter.

For media type blogs we have sketchlogs (drawings), vlogs (videos) and photologs (pictures). Apart from the above, we also identify them through the status of publishers (corporate and business e.g LinkedIn ).

In 2008, Simons (2008) came up with a classification of blogs. Among them are the digest blogs (guides), exhibition blogs (art gallery), diary blogs (personal), advertising blogs (promote products), pamphleteering blogs (argue on issues) and etc.

Although Wikipedia, Simons and many other authors had come up with different systems to classify blogs, it is actually hard to categorize blogs as a same blog might have variations of contents, styles and formats. I believe that one day, “blogs” will have more fragments and different terms will be used to replace the “blog” word.
